Curse of the Crimson Throne

Haunted Fortunes
Birth of a City's Heroes

It all started simply enough. A regular day interrupted by a single note delivered on a Harrow Deck card, with words that would swiftly alter your fate. The note leads you and several acquaintances to a small house on Lancet street, the home of the fortune teller Zellara.

Zellara tells you all that she has been wronged by a man named Gaedren Lamm, and that she knows you have been wronged as well. She tells you of the loss of her son Eran, and her pursuit of him for revenge. She convinces your group to find him at a fishery to the north along the Jeggare, and provides you with a Harrowing to guide your way. In the Harrowing, she tells the group of their destiny to become champions to Korvosa.

The Old Fishery
In Which We Make A Shocking Discovery

The PCs enter the Old Fishery after sundown, and take care of Gaedren’s main thugs Yargin, Hookshanks, Giggles and the mangy cur Bloo. All the little lambs are too scared to fight back and run into the night as soon as their captors are dead. The PCs then make their way under the fishery to access Gaedren’s Den, where he has Ivan’s sister strung up ready to feed to his crocodile Gobblegut.

After dispatching of Lamm quickly and anticlimactically, you loot Gaedrens rather pitiful treasures. Within his bedroom however, you make a shocking discovery – the head of Zellara! You go back to her apartment and discover that Zellara did pursue Gaedren, but was then captured and killed several weeks ago. She gathered the heroes together posthumously and now haunts her Harrow Deck.

City Gone Mad
Edge of Anarchy

Emerging from the fishery you find the city in chaos. News of King Eodred’s death has incited rioting across the city. Among the riots, the heroes have a chance to save a young noble from being killed by rioters, helped a drunk member of the Korvosan guard, witnessed a pitched battle between imps and pseudodragons, as well as calm a crazy doomsayer bent on grappling the paladin.

Long Live the Queen!
Edge of Anarchy

Sorting through the loot from the Fishery, the PCs realize they have a brooch that belongs to the Queen. They seek to return it and are rewarded by an audience with the Queen herself and her plea for these new ‘heroes’ to help the city. The PCs agree and are sent to Citadel Volshyenek to speak with Field Commander Cressidia Kroft. She sends the new heroes on a series of missions to help quell the unrest within the city.

All the Worlds Meat
Edge of Anarchy

The first mission our Heroes are tasked with is rounding up deserters from the Guard who left their posts and have been selling meat in Northshore. The PCs attempt a frontal approach to speak with these deserters and their leader, Verik Vancaskerkin, when the deserters attack instead. Dispatching the Cow Hammer Boys, the PCs investigate the lower levels of All the World’s Meat, finding hidden money from the Cow Hammer Boys’ side business of murdering people. It is then discovered that not all the meat being processed in the back are from animals. The people the men were murdering have been ending up being sold to citizens! At the end of their investigation, a drunk (and somewhat clueless) Verik emerges from the upstairs offices to see what the commotion is all about. The PCs charm him and arrest him, taking his fancy silver dagger that was a gift from his ‘girlfriend’ Melyia Arkona.

Our Heroes next task is to keep a Chelaxian Ambassador from capitalizing on the cities’ unrest (by finding dirt on him). They are sent to an unsavory lowlife in Old Korvosa known as the King of Spiders – Devargo Barvasi – with some cash and instructions to try to diplomacize their way into information on the Ambassador. All is going well with some words, gold, and a few rounds of Knivesies, when the tiny purple dragon hanging in a cage from the ceiling begs for help. The Paladin can’t help but come to the rescue, and fighting ensues. Several thugs and a dead Devargo later, the PCs go investigating belowdecks themselves to find the dirt they were looking for. They get the added bonus of destroying a Shiver operation as well as an Ettercap (who was doing all the spider controlling after all).

Murderess!
Edge of Anarchy

Unhappy people like to gossip, and the rumors were running wild that the King did not in fact die of natural causes. Word then starts to circulate that the King was indeed poisoned by a young woman who had been commissioned to paint his likeness. The fingers were pointed at young Trinia Sabor, with whom Gidion has some history. At the field marshall’s request, they seek to find Trinia before the angry mobs do. They succeed after a precarious chase across the rooftops. She claims her innocence, but guardsmen are still forced to take her to Castle Korvosa for questioning.

The Dead Warrens
Edge of Anarchy

While waiting for the results of the interrogation of young Trinia, our heroes help out the Korvosan guard again, this time aiding in recovering the body of a Shoanti tribesman who was killed in the streets during the riots (Korvosans are a bit xenophobic). The tribesman happened to be the nephew of the Shoanti Ambassador, Thousand Bones.

The PCs find the body parts within one of the secret lairs of Rolth the Necromancer, in the Dead Warrens within Grey District. This lair was full of derro, an Owlbear skeleton, a few necrophidius, a carrion golem, a very ugly ogre, and Rolth’s derro apprentice Vreeg.

Upon returning triumphant from this XP sidequest, the PCs find that Trinia has been convicted of treason (again, poor thing) and sentenced to death at sunset.

The PCs attend the debacle that is to be Trinia’s execution. For Gidion, this is the second time her life has been on the line in this way. At her execution, however, the legendary Korvosan ‘hero’ Blackjack shows himself for the first time in several years, freeing young Trinia and calling the Queen rude names. A riot ensues and the PCs watch as Trinia and Blackjack escape unharmed.

Seven Days to the Grave

With the rioting settled and talks of the botched execution of Trinia Sabor, life in Korvosa seems to be going back to its old routine. Our heroes are relaxing in Bard’s End Inn when their newly sober acquaintance, Grau Soldado appears.

Grau’s request is simple and straightforward. His niece Brienna is sick and no one knows what ails her. He figures your group will know the right people or be able to heal her yourself, without paying the exorbitant prices the Bank of Abadar would require. You accompany Grau to the Soldado residence in Trail’s End, where you run into a Banker by the name of Ishani. Ishani has done all he can with herbs but cannot arrange for a remove disease without asking payment per the laws of his church. The PCs pay for a remove disease, and after healing Brienna become heroes to her grateful mother.
